The Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup 2025 has already delivered a twist before the first whistle: Kaizer Chiefs FC will not participate this Sunday at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium. The club confirmed its withdrawal to focus on preparations for their upcoming Total Energies CAF Confederation Cup match against Al Masry SC on 23 November 2025. With the FIFA international break running from 10–18 November, Chiefs are using the period for focused match readiness, making it impossible to compete in the Legacy Cup without compromising performance.

In a dramatic turn, Richards Bay FC has stepped in to replace Kaizer Chiefs. The club had just been eliminated by Orlando Pirates in the Carling Knockout semi-final, losing 1-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Seizing the opportunity, the chairman of Richards Bay FC, Jomo Biyela confirmed their participation in the 2025 Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup, ensuring the tournament maintains its four-team format.

The updated schedule for 16 November is:

AmaZulu FC vs Njampela FC – 09:00

Richards Bay FC vs Nsingizini Hotspurs FC – 12:00

Final – 16:00

Mayor Michael Khumalo acknowledged the disappointment of losing one of South Africa’s biggest clubs but welcomed the new lineup: “Richards Bay FC’s willingness to join at short notice ensures that we continue to honour the legacy of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi while delivering a high-quality, competitive tournament.”

Fans with existing tickets can attend the games or request refunds via TicketPro. With AmaZulu, Richards Bay, Njampela, and Eswatini champions Nsingizini Hotspurs ready to compete, Ulundi is set for an action packed weekend of football, passion, and unforgettable moments even without the Chiefs.

Orlando Pirates Clinch Fourth Consecutive MTN8 Title with 3-0 Extra Time Victory Over Stellenbosch

13-September-2025

Orlando Pirates Football Club was crowned the 2025 MTN 8 champions after defeating Stellenbosch Football Club 3-0 in extra time. They became the first club to win this competition four consecutive times.

The MTN8 final at Mbombela Stadium such an electric atmosphere. Here’s a quick recap from what I remember: Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC were locked in a tense battle. The stadium was packed, fans on the edge of their seats as the clock ticked down. The score was tied late in the second half, and both teams were pushing hard for that winning goal.

They repeated their triumph from last year’s final at Moses Mabhida Stadium, but this time at Mbombela Stadium. You’ll recall there were many complaints after last year’s final from the referee’s controversial decisions to disputed goals that were believed to be offside or the result of fouls. The Western Cape side also lost their newly signed player, Lehlohonolo Mojela, to injury during that match, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. Despite that painful defeat, Stellenbosch entered this year’s final with high hopes of finally claiming the title from the mighty Buccaneers. However, their challenge was made even tougher after losing several key players to the league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

It was a tough and hard-fought match. Stellenbosch held the defending champions tightly for the full 90 minutes, taking the game into extra time. But that’s when the Buccaneers came alive. Tsepang Moremi opened the scoring for the home side, followed by a goal from Tshegofatso Mabasa, who doubled the lead. Pirates sealed the victory with a third goal, putting the game beyond reach. Unfortunately for the visitors, Stellenbosch never managed to register a single goal this time.

The newly signed Tshepang Moremi had a standout performance, scoring his first goal for the Buccaneers and earning the Man of the Match award. The 24-year-old winger, born in the Vaal, recently joined Orlando Pirates ahead of the new season from AmaZulu Football Club. He had been in fine form at AmaZulu, even earning a spot in Hugo Broos’ preliminary national team squad. Meanwhile, Tshegofatso Mabasa continues to make history scoring in every MTN8 final he has played for Pirates.

And that was it at Mbombela Stadium. Referee Eugene Mdluli composed and in control throughout blew the final whistle, bringing the match to an end. It was a glorious moment for Orlando Pirates, especially for the newly signed players who celebrated their first piece of silverware in professional football. On the other side of the pitch, however, it was heartbreak for Stellenbosch. The players, visibly emotional, lay on the grass, comforting one another after a tough loss they had hoped would end differently.

It’s heartbreaking to lose in a final, especially after such a hard-fought 90 minutes. The boys gave everything, and I’m proud of their effort. Losing some key players this season made our task tougher, but we showed that we can compete at this level. Injuries and small decisions didn’t go our way today, but we’ll learn from this and come back stronger. Congratulations to Orlando Pirates they deserved the win, says Stellenbosch FC Coach Steve Barker.”

Stellenbosch Captain Stephen Sage, said "It’s tough to take the loss, especially after giving everything on the pitch. We wanted this trophy badly, but sometimes football doesn’t go your way. We’ll regroup and work harder to come back stronger next season."

"I'm incredibly proud of the team today. It was a tough match, and Stellenbosch came with real determination, but our players showed great resilience, especially in extra time. Tshepang Moremi’s debut goal was a highlight, and Tshegofatso Mabasa’s consistency in the finals is a testament to his quality and character. Winning this fourth consecutive MTN8 title is a massive achievement for the club and everyone involved. We’ll enjoy this moment but also start preparing for the challenges ahead, Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expressed his happiness to the win.”

Tshepang Moremi (Man of the Match): "I’m truly honored to receive the Man of the Match award in my first MTN8 final with Orlando Pirates. It’s a special feeling to score my first goal for the club and help bring home this trophy. The team worked hard, and we believed in ourselves until the very end. This is just the beginning for me here, and I’m motivated to keep improving and contributing to the team’s success."

Tshegofatso Mabasa: "Scoring in another MTN8 final feels incredible. These moments are what you play for as a professional footballer. I’m proud to be part of this winning team and to keep making history with Pirates. The atmosphere and support from the fans really lift us up."

Orlando Pirates ,the Soweto Giants Known as the Buccaneers, Orlando Pirates come into the final with the weight of history and expectation on their shoulders. As defending MTN8 champions, the Soweto-based club is no stranger to the big stage. Pirates have a rich legacy in South African football and remain consistent contenders for every domestic trophy. Last season, under the guidance of Coach Jose Riveiro, the Buccaneers lifted the MTN8 trophy after defeating Stellenbosch 3-1 in the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Though Riveiro departed the club before the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign, the Pirates have continued their momentum and remain a formidable force under their current technical setup. With a talented squad boasting experience, firepower, and tactical discipline, the Buccaneers will be aiming to defend their crown and add yet another trophy to their illustrious cabinet.

Stellenbosch FC, the Pride of the Western Cape Affectionately known as the Maroons, Stellenbosch FC has grown from a promising young club into a serious challenger in South African football. Representing the Western Cape, Stellies bring a mix of youth, energy, and fearless ambition to every competition. Having reached the final last year for the first time in their history, Stellenbosch pushed Pirates hard but ultimately fell short, losing 3-1. However, that experience has only fueled their hunger for silverware.

In the 2025 edition of the MTN8, they’ve shown resilience, tactical maturity, and a fearless approach that has won them fans across the country. This rematch offers Stellies a chance at redemption and a shot at writing a historic new chapter for the club.

Can the Buccaneers sail to another MTN8 triumph? All eyes will be on Mbombela STADIUM NEXT MONTH.

29-August-2025

All Roads Lead to Mbombela The MTN8 Final at Mbombela Stadium isn’t just a rematch. It’s a narrative-rich showdown between a team defending its legacy and a team chasing redemption.

Orlando Pirates are no strangers to Mbombela Stadium. Just last year, they faced off against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final at this iconic venue. This upcoming clash will mark their fifth consecutive final at Mbombela a remarkable feat that highlights their consistency on the big stage. Having already clinched the MTN8 title three times, the Buccaneers now have their sights set on a fourth championship. They'll be taking on Stellenbosch FC on September 13th, determined to add another trophy to their impressive collection.

Orlando Pirates Set for Another Final Showdown at Mbombela Stadium When it comes to performing on the big stage, few teams match the pedigree of Orlando Pirates and Mbombela Stadium has become something of a second home for the Soweto giants. Just last year, the Buccaneers locked horns with Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final at this very venue. Now, they’re set to make history once again, as they prepare to contest their fifth consecutive final at Mbombela Stadium a testament to the club’s consistency and dominance in South African football.

This time, the stage is set for the MTN8 final, where Pirates will take on a spirited Stellenbosch FC side on 13 September. With three MTN8 titles already under their belt, the Sea Robbers are gunning for a record-equalling fourth crown in the modern era of the competition. The atmosphere is sure to be electric, and Pirates fans will be hoping their team can once again rise to the occasion and deliver silverware.

Can Coach Aouduo Abdeslam Continue the Buccaneers’ Trophy Hunt?

As the 2025 MTN8 Final approaches, all eyes are on Orlando Pirates' new head coach, Aouduo Abdeslam, and his assistant Mandla Ncikazi to see whether they can continue the silverware trail blazed by their predecessor, Jose Riveiro. After lifting multiple domestic trophies, including last year’s MTN8 title, Riveiro left big boots to fill when he departed before the end of the 2023/24 season. His disciplined style and tactical clarity brought structure and success to the Buccaneers, culminating in a 3–1 victory over Stellenbosch FC in the 2024 MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Now, in 2025, the stage is eerily familiar: same opponents, different coach, same ambition.

A Time of Change for the Buccaneers While Abdeslam is new to South African football, he brings a fresh philosophy and international experience to a team that is no stranger to high expectations. With Mandla Ncikazi staying on as assistant a coach with deep knowledge of the local game there’s a blend of continuity and new ideas in the Pirates' technical team. But as with any new era, there have been changes.

Squad Reshuffle: In with the New, Out with the Promising One of the biggest talking points in Pirates’ off-season was the departure of Mohau Nkota, the talented winger from Kimberley. After just one season with the senior team following his promotion from the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) squad Nkota earned a high-profile move to Al Ettifaq FC in the Arabian league. His pace, flair, and confidence caught the attention of international scouts, and while his exit leaves a gap, it also reflects the club’s ability to develop top-tier talent. In his place, Pirates have made key signings aimed at adding depth, experience, and match-winning quality all necessary for a team chasing trophies on multiple fronts.

Pressure and Opportunity For Coach Abdeslam, this final is more than just a chance at his first piece of silverware in South Africa it’s a litmus test. Can he absorb the pressure of the Pirates badge, maintain a winning culture, and inspire belief in a slightly restructured squad? For the club, it’s about proving that success isn’t tied to one coach or one season It’s a culture. A legacy.

Gabi undergone a successful surgery in Morocco after a horrific injury in the semi-final match as Banyana bowed out.

23-July-2025

After suffering an injury during yesterday night's CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semifinal match against Nigeria at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Banyana Banyana star Gabriela Salgado had a successful operation at the Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca, Morocco.

After an accident during Tuesday's (July 22, 2025) match between the South African women's team and Nigeria, Salgado was substituted out late in the second half. She will stay with the team when she is released from the hospital and stay there while she recovers. Next week, she will take a flight home with Banyana Banyana. After undergoing successful surgery at the Moroccan hospital, Gabriela will miss the remainder of the season due to a fracture to the mid-shaft of her left leg sustained during the match against Nigeria.

Dr. Lindi Mokoena, a team doctor for Banyana Banyana, stated, "We were completely confident and at ease with the procedure being performed in Morocco and would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to CAF and the dedicated staff at the Mohamed VI University Hospital for their professionalism and outstanding support during this time."

After Salgado was stabilized after the injury, the entire Banyana Banyana team paid her a visit in the hospital on the night of the game.

Support messages are still coming in, and Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, is spearheading the effort. Our thoughts are with Banyana Banyana player Gabriela today, and we hope she recovers comfortably and quickly from the traumatic injury she sustained in last night's WAFCON semi-final against a victorious Nigeria. Gabriela, I am aware that you are a courageous and talented lady on the field, as well as a woman of strong and open faith. The country hopes you have a good one. The defending champions of Africa and Nigeria's success in the referee's optional proved that Casablanca would always be a difficult ask for our national team. We have no doubt that Banyana Banyana will get back together and win WAFCON again in the future. "We wish Morocco's Atlas Lionesses and Nigeria's Super Falcons luck in Saturday's dream home final for the host country," President Ramaphosa stated in a statement.

The Nigerian Super Falcons joined in the greetings as well. Following Salgado's injury, a few of their players were upset and visibly crying during the match.

A signed Super Falcon jersey was given to Gabriela by some Nigerian athletes who visited her in the hospital today.

All members of the Super Falcons of Nigeria team, including the players, coaches, and staff, were deeply grieved to hear about Gabriela Salgado's catastrophic injury from yesterday's game. For now, we are only thinking of her in terms of consolation, care, and the road to recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gabriela, her teammates, her family, and her closest friends, who we hope will persevere and be strong. Our immediate worry and our ongoing care are just for her comfort, healing, and well-being.

A common concern for a fellow athlete takes the place of the competitive spirit in such situations. The Super Falcons NGR is fully in sympathy and support of Banyana Banyana as fellow members of this football community. We all hope that Gabriela recovers steadily, regains her strength, and returns to the field when she is ready, with the team and community's steadfast support. The Super Falcons squad released a statement that stated, "With deepest sympathies and solidarity."

The reigning champions lost in the semifinals of the WAFCON 2024.

22-July-2025

It is no longer possible for the South African ladies to defend their 2022 title, but if they defeat Ghana on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 21:00, they might take home a bronze medal as they compete for third place.

Nigerian girls eliminated Banyana Banyana from the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after five games, defeating them two goals to one.

A terrible injury to Gabriela Salgado in the 83rd minute of play, with the score tied at 1-1, completely changed the course of the match. It's possible that the players' emotional outbursts and tears caused them to become so disturbed that they stopped playing the game altogether.

SAFA reports that Dr. Thulani Ngwenya, their Chief Medical Officer, gave an update on Salgado's injury, stating that she was taken to the hospital right away for additional evaluation following the incident. We are unsure of the degree of the damage at this time, but we will share additional information after she has undergone a comprehensive evaluation at the hospital in Morocco.

The 62-year-old South African coach Desiree Ellis believes that Salgado's injury cost the squad too much since it made it difficult for the players to focus, which gave Nigeria an opportunity to win.

The SAFA President, Dr. Danny Jordan, wished Salgado a quick recovery, saying the girls showed great courage and intelligence in the game, proving they were the greatest team on the continent.

Banyana Banyana defeated Mali 4 goals to 0 in the group stages, tied 1-1 with Tanzania, and defeated Ghana 2 goals to 0 before losing to Senegal in the semi-final. After 90 minutes and extra time, they fought to a scoreless draw in the quarterfinals. They then won 4-1 on penalties, although they were eliminated by Nigeria 2-1 in the semi-finals, meaning they were unable to go to the WAFCON final. Their hopes of winning the 2022 title again are gone, but if they defeat Ghana on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 21:00, they might take home a bronze medal as they compete for third place.

South African girls will play Ghana for third place on Friday, July 25, 2025, while the host, Morocco, will play the nine-time champions, Nigeria, in the WAFCON final on Saturday, July 26 at 22:00. Ghana has made it to the final three times without ever winning a title, whereas South Africa has made it to the final six times and only won once. The Moroccans are making their second consecutive appearance in the final after losing to South Africa in the 2022 WAFCON final by a score of two goals to one.

The South African national teams' unhealed wounds from losing to the Nigerian teams in the African title semi-finals were reopened when Banyana Banyana was eliminated in the WAFCON semifinals. As you recall, the Nigerian men's squad eliminated the South African men's team (Bafana Bafana) from the AFCON competition in the semi-finals in Ivory Coast last year, 2024.

After Vera Pauw resigned as coach of Banyana Banyana in 2016, Desiree took over as interim coach. She led the team to the WAFCON final, where they finished as runners-up, after being completely hired as head coach on a permanent basis in 2018. She initially qualified with Banyana for the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2019, and they qualified for the second FIFA Women's World Cup competition in 2022 after winning the WAFCON for the first time against Morocco. She led Banyana to the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023, where they advanced to the round of 16. Desiree was also given the COSAFA Women's Championship CAF Women's Coach of the Year Award.

Durban icc was a lucky chaRm for the KZn kingdom stars in this year’s Telkom NetBall league .

20-July-2025

After defeating the Limpopo Baobabs 60-42 in the playoffs at the Durban ICC, the KZN Kingdom Stars have once again won the division 2 title and have finally been promoted back to their rightful place in the division 1 of the Telekom Netball League (TNL). After losing in the relegation or promotion playoffs at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg last year, the girls bounced back this time, winning at home with a lot of help from the Durban community.

Nompumelelo Mthembu led the Kingdom Stars back to TNL division 1 as head coach this time. In 2024, they were denied promotion in the playoffs at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg under the coaching of Precious Anthem, who quit following the TNL tournament.

Thulisile Maduna is making a comeback in this year's TNL after missing the 2024 competition because of the regulations set forth by Netball South Africa, which state that a player can only play or be selected in their province if they have competed in the provincial championships. During this year's TNL competition, Thule won seven player of the match awards and was named the tournament's MVP at the TNL finale ceremony, demonstrating her constant deservingness of being called up.

Although the Stars were able to advance to division 1, the same cannot be said for the younger sisters, the Kingdom Queens, who have once again struggled in division B despite having the home field in Durban to their advantage. They defeated Sonoblomo 48-44 in the fifth/6th place playoffs to finish fifth in division 2.

It may be said that they have dedicated this victory and promotion to Dr. Themba Mkhize, the vice president of KZN Netball, who also owns Ocean Predators, a formidable and dominant netball team in the KZN Super League. Dr. TV served as the federation's president before Ms. Gugu Ngema assumed the presidency, and he has done a great deal for the country throughout the years. fostering the growth of netball in his area, King Cetshwayo, and the province.

In less than a year, this federation has lost a number of executive members. Not long ago, PEC treasurer Mr. Gamede left, and before him, they lost Mrs. Phindile Dlamini from Zululand district, who was also a PEC member and played a significant role in administration and logistics during the Super League in all divisions.

When the TNL 2025 competition came to an end at the Durban ICC, Netball South Africa acting president Mami Diale commended the KZN for the incredible audience. "We've seen a lot of new talent, a lot of opportunities, and we've done community outreach by providing coaching clinics," Diale added, describing this season as the best of TNL she has ever seen.

10-July-2025

Premier Thami Ntuli of KwaZulu Natal stated that the province is pleased to have two of its teams qualify for the MTN8 quarterfinals this season: Richards Bay FC and AmaZulu FC, both of which placed in the top eight. It's also intriguing that Midlands Wanderers and Durban City FC are taking part in this tournament for the first time.

I'm sure that the residents of Richards Bay are thrilled to have the chance to watch the best teams and talent play here. The KwaZulu Natal government is making significant investments in sports because we recognize their value in preventing drug use among children, bringing people together, and boosting the local economy and job market. To ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity, we are moving this competition around the province.

Mntomuhle Khawula, KwaZulu Natal's MEC for Sport, Arts, and Culture, stated that this competition is crucial for our teams since they lack major sponsors to travel the world for their preseason, but the KZN Premiers Cup is crucial in helping the teams get ready for the upcoming season each year.

Reaction of Lamontville Golden Arrows assistant coach Kagiso Dikgacoi to the 11th KZN Premier's Cup match up against Usuthu on July 26, 2025, at Umhlathuze Sports Complex. Since we want to push ourselves and this game will give us a sense of where we are going with our preseason preparations as Abafana Besthende, it's not an easy fixture for us.

Arrows lost the tournament's opening game after being drawn against the same team in the first round the previous year.

PRO Philani Ndlela, speaking on behalf of AmaZulu FC, praised the team's preparations while they are camping and engaging in friendly games with other clubs in Polokwane. He stated that they are eager to play the game and hope to do to Arrows what they did to them in Ulundi last year, which was to eliminate them early from the competition.

He affirmed that they have a strong team, some of the players have returned from loan, and they have new assistant coach Simo Dladla, who previously coached for Richards Bay FC, Uthongathi FC, Moroka Swallows, and Durban City. Simo Dladla recently joined Usuthu to help coach Arthur "10111" Zwane for the campaign. He is an extremely capable coach who was recently promoted to the Betway Premiership with Durban City before being let go because of contract disputes.

Coach Ronnie Gabriel of Richards Bay FC expressed his excitement about playing at Umhlathuze Sports Complex ahead of the upcoming season, stating that they will have the opportunity to test the field and get acclimated to it before the season begins. We are excited to return home after spending the last three seasons playing in Durban. This will undoubtedly result in us earning even more points with our fans crammed into the stadium as it will now be simple for them to come cheer us on.

He discussed losing two of their most important players to Orlando Pirates FC, Nkosikhona Ndaba and Yanela Mbuthuma, who were instrumental in Richboyz's success the previous season, and he acknowledged that there are a number of new players coming in to take their place.

We will be well-prepared on Sunday, July 27, 2025, because we know what the newly promoted Midlands Wanderers are capable of doing and we have seen them throughout the season. We will not undercut them because we are drawn with them in the semi-finals.

Before the season starts, these games will allow us to test our combinations, strategies, and systems.

This year's Premier Cup is an opportunity for Abafana BestHende to make amends for their early exit mistake from the previous year.

09-07-2025

The Durban-based Lamontville Golden Arrows are hoping to make up for their Premier League loss to AmaZulu FC on July 26, 2025, at Umhlathuze Sport Complex.

Nduduzo “Suluh” Sibiya, a star of the Lamontville Golden Arrows, responded to the KZN Premier's Cup 2025 draw with Usuthu. We are glad to have been drawn to play AmaZulu FC, he said, as it would allow us to test ourselves before the Premier Soccer League season begins and let the new players to see if they fit in with the team. Since we were eliminated in the opening match of this competition last year, we want to make amends this time, go to the finals, and perhaps even win the prize.

We just returned from the holidays a day ago, and we are only performing light training to acclimate our bodies to the gym. We're hoping to be strong and prepared for the Premier's Cup competition by then.

It's great to see so many KZN teams competing at a high level, but as the senior players, it is also our responsibility to help these young players take this cup competition seriously since it is from here that we will develop the positive mindset needed to win cup trophies in the Premier Soccer League.

Playing against the best teams will help a new team like Midland's Wanderers, who recently received a promotion to the NFD, showcase themselves and see how prepared they are for the new PSL challenge. It will also help them get ready for their first season in the MOTSEPE foundation championship. Being the most competitive league in the PSL, the NFL requires players to be disciplined, focused, and cautious in order to avoid injuries.

As a player, you should take good care of yourself because everyone has a part to play in helping a team finish in a strong position. This will benefit you in the long run.

Usuthu will play Abafana Besthende at eleven a.m. on July 26, 2025, followed by the newly promoted Durban City playing the Stallions (Milford FC) at two p.m. on the same day. The first semi-final match will take place on July 27 at nine a.m., when Midland's Wanderers (Abafana Bebatha, the young lions of the Midlands) will play the Natal Richboyz (Richards Bay FC). The winners of the first two games will then play each other at half past twelve p.m., and the final will start at four p.m. on Sunday.

The 2025 KZN PREmIer’s cup edition will reopen umhlathuze sportS complex aS the renoVations are done.

Richards Bay (King Cetshwayo District) hosted the 11th KZN Premier's Cup Launch with great success. The reigning winners, Royal Am, will not participate in the 11th Premier's Cup because they were kicked out of the Soccer Premier League in the 2025 season for different reasons.

Following that, Midlands FC, a recently promoted team from Pietermaritzburg, will join the other five KZN teams: AmaZulu FC, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Richards Bay FC, Milford FC, and Durban City FC.

The Richards Bay Sport Complex, located in King Cetshwayo District, will host this year's competition on July 26 and 27, 2025. According to KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, this stadium is now eligible to host the Premier's Cup games, and admission to all of them will be free.

He underlined the value of supporting our local companies, which is why this major competition is held in different regions around KZN. Three games on Sunday and two on Saturday.

King Cetshwayo will also host coaching clinics where children will receive mentoring in a variety of subjects.

Children will receive mentoring in a variety of disciplines at coaching clinics held at King Cetshwayo.

According to Mtomuhle Khawula the MEC of KwaZulu Natal Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, this competition benefits not only our local companies but also our teams as they train for the upcoming season because they don't have as many sponsors as other teams from other provinces that travel to Europe to do so. Our teams rely on the Premiers Cup for preparation, unlike Gauteng teams, they travel to Europe and America to get ready for the upcoming season.

The increasing number of KZN teams reaching the top is admirable, but we must uphold the idea that no one should be demoted or forced to purchase a position in order to advance. We hope to see many promotions from the ABC MOTSEPE league, NFD to the Betway Premiership. Congratulations to the recently promoted Durban City and Midlands Wanderers. Because a promotion for our teams implies more games for our supporters and fans in the province and more talent from our province being scouted.

Following Durban City's promotion to the Betway Premiership, we owe ourselves at least one cup this season. I have no doubt that nothing will prevent us from winning some silverware this season.

We're inviting all of the province's supporters to pack the stadium on both days so they can cheer on the teams and take in the stunning football featuring up-and-coming talent.

06-July-2025

In their fourth season in the ABC MOTSEPE League, the Midlands Young Lions were promoted to the MOTSEPE Foundation Championship following a very difficult National Playoffs at the Soshanguve.

From defeating their home club, Mkhambathi FC, in the provincial final to defeating Thames FC (North West Province) in third place, this Natal Midlands team from Pietermaritzburg's Umgungundlovu region demonstrated bravery and hunger.

Nkosivelile Zulu, a 30-year-old Pietermaritzburg boy at Dambuza, became one of the most crucial players for the young lions, scoring four goals during the National playoffs. He said, "I'm happy to have contributed to my team's success; it means a lot and it mean putting a good meal on my family's table."

This also breaks the curse, if you will. We hope that the Harry Gwala Stadium will host their games, and we will support them wholeheartedly.

Despite pending cases from other provinces and disputes from other clubs throughout the playoffs, SAFA went ahead with the competition. Royal Am's expulsion from the Premier Soccer League's top division resulted in the promotion of three teams: the Bees, Gomora, and Midlands FC to the National First Division (NFD), presently known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

I don't think we can express how much we appreciate her efforts, but you have to accept a player's decision. Although it wasn't shocking to me I've spoken with Jermaine I must accept the choice says Banyana Banyana Coach Desiree Ellis.”

18 June 2025

After winning the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title seven times in a row, the Betway Premiership champions were given the opportunity to compete against the world's top clubs in the 2025 FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP.

Despite losing The Total Energies Caf champions league title to Pyramids FC in The away final last month, they have accumulated a great deal of experience throughout the years. Rayners gave the South African team the victory, and the Brazilians got off to a strong start in their encounter, defeating the Ulsan squad 1-0.

After one game, Pretoria leads their group F by three points, followed by Borussia Dortmund, who drew with Fluminense by a score of zero goals. On June 21st, 2025, they will meet Dortmund in The second group stage match. The Brazilian players' thoughts on the match against Borrusia Dortmund as they prepare to travel to Cincinnati on Thursday for their most important game of the weekend.

They are pleased with their first victory over Ulsan, according to Divine Lunga, who also noted that the team's collective effort to battle hard and their ability to analyze their opponents allowed them to tackle precisely as planned.

In preparation for our weekend encounter against Dortmund, we are flying to Cincinatti tomorrow, June 19, to acclimate to the city and surroundings.

Everyone is aware of Dortmund's potential; they are not like those little clubs; they are formidable opponents, but as underdogs from our hometown, they are well-versed in Mamelodi Sundowns.

Although we haven't seen the opposing coach's pregame interview to learn more about their strategy for this weekend's match, we are certain that it will be a difficult contest.

the celebration continues for the South African Men's Proteas as the icc world test champs after beating the defending champions.

16 June 2025

The Proteas won a first ICC title since 1998, following a 5 wicket victory over Australia in the World Test Championship final played at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London. After 27 years of losing ICC knockout matches. which includes 2 quarter finals, 12 semi finals and 1 final, the South African senior men's cricket team can finally call themselves champions.

The unfolding of this match at Lord's over the past couple of days has rekindled interest in Test cricket, especially among nations like Australia, which have experienced numerous victories compared to South Africa. many people believed that the Proteas would not win.

Aiden Markram made history and rescued South Africa making 136 off 207 balls, a stellar performance that earned him the ICC Player of the Match award, though you cannot speak of the heroes and leave the team captain, Temba Bavuma who also fought gritty 66 till he was forced by the hamstring injury to finish the match on the stand-watching,

Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma complimented his teammates more especially Aiden Markram, for the way he played like a champ, he went on to say that the public criticized Aiden asking the management why he's still part of the national team.

Aiden Markram was dropped from the tour in 2022/23 season, but coach Shukri Conrad showed courage by bringing him back into the group. He was fantastic and led his team when they needed him the most. South Africa's victory is only their second ICC trophy in cricket history, and their first since they took home the ICC knockout trophy (now known as the Champions Trophy) in 1998.

This time the boys are returning home as champions, with the ICC World Test Championship Mace in hand. The ICC World Test Champions are expected to be welcomed at home on Wednesday, the 18th of June 2025, at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg where they are expected to address the media and celebrate the victory.

15 June 2025

It was yet another beautiful edition of the Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup 2025 in Free State Province, Bloemfontein as they hosted the men’s Cosafa competition for this year. Today the 15th of June 2025, we've witnessed the 3rd-place position battle between Mozambique and Comoros which ended with 1 goal to nil Comoros beating Mozambique, while South Africa failed to get a win against Angola as they were defeated by 3 goals to nil,

despite the creation of chances by South African team they couldn't convert those chances to get goals.

The Angolans team has been solid throughout the competition having lost even a single match with coach Pedro

Gonçalves, a 48 years old from the Portuguese who has been with this Angola team for almost 8 years now having started with the development and gotten his way up to the first team, winning back to back Cosafa competition, last year 2024 & this year 2025 becoming the second coach to win back to back in this competition following Sunday Chidzambwa of Zimbabwean team who won back in 2017 & 2018.

Coach Pedro complemented the Cosafa organizers with the beautiful work they do but also criticized the pitch, Free State Stadium, or Toyota Stadium that it wasn't of a good standard to play the game. Still, hopefully, they'll do better next time. He continued saying “I'm happy to defend this title it's all because of these amazing players, their passion and hard work on the field, also thanks to our staff and everyone back in Angola - let’s celebrate.”

South African coach, Vela Khumalo said, we played a good game but they were better than us, they have an excellent team, I think it's their first team. The boys lacked concentration today I don't know what happened but it's alright I cannot blame any of them, we will take a silver medal though we wanted a gold. I just hope coach Hugo Broos will take one or two players from this squad to the senior team because they've shown that they are capable and great.

The redesigned Maritzburg team was promoted to the Premiership after one season as Durban City FC.

10-June-2025

With so many obstacles to overcome, Durban City FC decided to change its name from Maritzburg to Durban City FC, relocate to Durban, and play at Chatsworth Stadium. Also losing Greytown's most prized and talented player, Sinamandla "Sgora" Zondi, who passed out during a warm-up at Chatsworth Stadium just before their match against Milford FC in the KZN derby.

In the 2024–2025 season, coach Simo Dladla and his assistant Pitso Dladla led the newly reconstituted team from Durban to a direct promotion to the PSL top division. The Namibian midfielder Joslin Kamatuka was instrumental in the team's promotion to the Betway Premiership. with 14 goals, the most for Durban City FC, and second in the league after Hungry Lions' Muzomuhle Khanyi, who has 18 goals.

Finally the team was ultimately declared the 2024–2025 Motsepe Foundation Championship winners. Due to the arbitration case filed by JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs regarding the fielding of Saziso Magawana, whom they claimed that he was ineligible to play for the City because his clearance was granted after the window period closed, the team had to wait a long time and lost the chance to lift the championship trophy in the season's last game. The case was dismissed with costs by the court.

Farook Kadodia, the chairman of Durban City FC, has been vocally criticizing the Msunduzi Municipality of Pietermaritzburg for not treating him and the team fairly. By introducing Royal Am to Harry Gwala Stadium and rebranding the venue to remove Maritzburg insignia, the municipality expelled them.

Farook affirmed that despite receiving a promotion and Royal Am getting kicked out of the PSL for owing SARS, they will not be moving back to Maritzburg.

The chairman commended the Durban supporters for their steadfast support and asked them to keep it up. We are here to stay in Durban, he stated, and this is for our Durban residents who have supported us during this trying time. The crew is not leaving.

The 4th edition of Khabba Cup Tournament standard was prestigious WITH THE BIGGEST SPONSOR

08 June 2025

Manqoba "Khabba" Mkhize, a former player for Kaizer Chiefs FC and Lamontville Golden Arrows, as well as the founder of the Khabba Cup tournament, shared that his love for football originates from his home in Mpangeni, KwaMthethwa, where he was born and raised by both parents. However, everything changed for the better when he moved to Durban in 1993. In Durban, he had more opportunities to play football compared to his rural hometown. His life took a dramatic turn when he was scouted and began playing for the National Under-20 team, allowing him to travel the world, meet diverse people, and learn valuable life lessons.

Unfortunately, in 2006, at the age of 28, his journey took another turn when he sustained a permanent injury that forced him to quit playing football. Despite this setback, he remained passionate about the sport and did not let it deter him from his love for football.

Khabba Cup is one of the biggest annual football tournament in KwaZulu Natal, particularly Durban which has attracted lot of people around the country, we’ve seen Hollywoodbets sponsoring this beautiful event that takes place in different fields around Durban locations for group stages, and finishes in Umlazi, King Zwelithini Stadium for the semifinals and final game. It all started in one field, in 2022 at Werma (SJ Smith Stadium) where one of the Richards Bay FC & Bafana Bafana star players, Yanela Mbuthuma was scouted, we’ve seen lot of players from this competition getting professional contract from PSL teams, the likes of Senzo “Mbhobho” Ndlovu at AmaZulu FC, Samkelo Maseko playing for the newly promoted Durban City FC and many more.

One of the Khabba Cup organizers, Vusumuzi “Kanu” Vilakazi said he’s happy to have been the part of this project when it started till today, he also mentioned that they’ve always been trying to knock at some doors to get a company that will broadcast this biggest tournament but they are not in a rush everything will eventually fall into place on its own.

Samkelo Maseko, who’s one of the Khabba Cup graduate said, his life completely changed after being scouted in this tournament, but he’s still humble, respectful, disciplined and working hard everyday cause it is not easy. He also encouraged other youngsters to work hard and showcase their skills because they’ll never know who’s watching them.

A MASSIVE ONE! THE NTOKOZO MYENI UNDER-15 ANNUAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT CELEBRATING ITS FIFTH YEAR.

07 June 2025

Ntokozo Myeni, a Sports Journalist from Mpangeni, Ngwelezane township, and the founder of the NTOKOZO MYENI UNDER 15 SOCCER TOURNAMENT, claims that it all began in 2021. The goal was to help the young people in my township avoid using drugs, alcohol, and other substances that could jeopardize their future prospects. it also aimed to steer them in the correct route so they could potentially play professional football in the near future.

When I first started this project, I used my own money, but now I'm grateful that there is a light. we celebrated 5 years of doing this project this year, 2025, and were able to secure sponsors such as Umhlathuze Municipality, Old Mutual, Somadisi Mobile Auto Glass, Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Orange Grove, and Select Sports. but I'm hoping for additional sponsors and assistance in the future because the project is expanding year after year, and we'll need more funding to keep it running and make it a success.

We currently have 4 players in the Gauteng Development League and want to generate more, but only with a support of the great Mr. Mike "Nanana" Ntombela, who joined us 3 years ago to scout talent and pick 23 squad to compete against other teams around the country.

Dr Xanti Pupuma’s reaction today, as they played their final game of the season today, Milford FC lost to Baroka FC 2-1. With 43 points, they finished in sixth place in the log table. He said Although I believe we got off to a strong start in the first and second halves of the game, we were sadly unlucky tonight.

We had a chance to experience being in the top spot on the log table for a considerable amount of time, and while we would love to at least finish in the top three next season and perhaps be in a good position for a promotion, we are confident that we will continue to learn. The plan is obviously to compete in the league.

Our focus last season was on battling to stay in the NFD and avoid relegation, but since this is our second season, we were still attempting to get used to the league.

I believe that we performed much worse at home this season than when we played away. I realize that the players may have been physically and financially exhausted from traveling from Richards Bay to Durban to play our home games.

Traveling from Richards Bay to Durban for our home game at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu has proven to be difficult. The KwaMashu community has been incredible, full of love and support at every home game because there are players from here as well, and their families turn out in large numbers to show some support. It's financially draining for the team, and as chairman, I struggle too.

However, things would be much better and we would save a lot of money if we could conclude our negotiations with Umhlathuze Municipality to play at home next season.

We hope that our talks with the municipality go well so that we can return to Umhlathuze Sports Complex for our home games next season, even though KwaMashu is fully behind us.

Although we can't give away too much at this time because the season just ended, we have already selected a number of players to join our team for the upcoming campaign, and we are concentrating more on Zululand because we want to grow the community.

The Buccaneers Stole another versatile player from Limpopo province ahead of next season.

Tshepo Mashiloane, defender for Baroka FC, reflects on their away match against Milford FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the last game of the season. Despite our victory today, he remarked, we had a really difficult season and were unable to advance our team, which was the club's objective.

Our season was really difficult, particularly because we failed to promote the squad, which aimed to return to the PSL's top division. Because we had so many more opportunities than our opponents, we were unable to convert our chances in our games; if we had, the situation would be different.

Tshepo, 23, played for Baroka for three seasons before joining the Buccaneers at the end of the 2024–2025 season. He is considered one of the best young defenders in the Premier Soccer League and played for teams like Monareng United in the Limpopo village. "Yes, I've signed with Pirates, but I would have liked to move there after getting a promotion with our team," he said, confirming his next move to Orlando Pirates FC. "I think the guys will do well for next and manage to get a promotion."

The chairman is delighted for me and has endorsed my transfer to Pirates. I'm glad to have joined the biggest club in South Africa, and I hope to accomplish a lot with them. I also hope to play in league games like the Betway Premiership and cup competitions like the Nedbank Cup, MTN8, Carling Knockout, and Total Energies Caf Champions League, but I know that I have to work hard to earn it.

Three seasons have passed since Baroka FC was demoted from the top flight to the second division of the PSL (NFD); in the first season, they finished in ninth place, and in the second season, they participated in the promotional/relegation playoffs, which never went well. Baroka FC finished eighth on the Motsepe Foundation Championship table with 41 points. Their 2024–25 season didn't start well until they were re-appointed coach Dan "Dance" Malesela, who significantly improved the team and got them winning games.

If Dan Dance joins Baroka for preseason training, he hopes for a strong start to the upcoming season. They are also trying to add a few players to their roster because they will be losing a number of players.

The richboyz are looking to go back home next season for their home matches.

Today in the KZN Derby, Richards Bay FC played their final home game against Lamontville Golden Arrows at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi-Durban. They drew 0–0 with the Betway Premiership campaign. On May 24, 2025, they will play their final season away game against relegation-threatened SuperSport United.

Jomo Biyela, the chairman of Richards Bay FC, thanked the fans for staying by them throughout the season and accompanying them wherever they went during their final home game of the Betway Premiership 2024–25 season. He also gave the senior players credit for protecting and mentoring the recently promoted young players to the first team, as well as for welcoming them and making it easy for them to adjust to the demands of the top flight.

It's exhausting for our players and the team as a whole to travel from Richards Bay to Durban for our home games, and it costs us a lot. I'm hoping the renovations are completed soon so that we may return and play at Umhlathuze Sports Complex next season.

Ronnie Gabriel, the club's coach, is pleased with the team's league ranking since they have a strong possibility of placing in the top eight, which would guarantee them a spot in the MTN8 competition the following season. He also thanks the devoted fans for their steadfast support both at home and away over the season. We plan to play at Umhlathuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay next season because traveling from Richards Bay to Durban for every home game has been exhausting.

The man of few words, Simphiwe “Khimba” Mcineka, the captain of the Richboyz, thanked the fans and urged them to stick with them during the upcoming season.

Richards Football Club might move back to Richards Bay next season to play their home games at home, Umhlathuze Sports Complex, the team has been vocal on how it’s financially draining to the club and players as they always travel from Bay to Durban for their home games, the y are waiting for the municipality to finish the renovations.

“I’m happy for SETTING myself a Target and Reaching It, though i can still break it” Durban City Star Player

07-May-2025

In the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Samkelo Maseko, who previously played for Dabeka Sporting, Umkhumbane Classic, and Maritzburg United before abruptly changing their name to Durban City FC, had an outstanding 2024–2025 season, scoring ten goals in the competition.

We had a conversation with him at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban during their most recent home game versus Black Leopards FC. To be honest, he did not anticipate playing so many games this season. He expressed his happiness and humility at having contributed to the squad. We still have one more home game left before the season ends, and ever since I started playing this season, I've set goals for myself. I've reached my goal today by scoring the tenth goal, and I hope to surpass it. If I get the chance to play away against the Capetown Spurs next week, I'd be happy to score more goals.

Coach Dladla was pushing and urging me to score more goals this season, maybe 20 or more, but I missed a lot of opportunities, so I'm content with what I've done so far. If I hadn't missed those chances, I definitely would have 15 goals or more.

The transition from amateur to professional league has taught me a lot. reacting to the team's advancement. Taking a deep breath, he responded to their potential promotion to the Betway Premiership by saying, "I have mixed emotions about the promotion news." "We are short as a team, and we recently lost our teammates Sinamandla "sgora" Zondi. I wish he was here with us too, so we can all celebrate together as a team. We all worked hard to get the promotion, and he also played a very big role."

Although it's only their first season, Durban City FC has done a fantastic job since moving from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and renaming the team from Maritzburg United to Durban City FC. They will soon be declared the Motsepe Foundation Championship champions since so much has happened in such a short time.

After defeating the Black Leopards 3 goals to 2, the Durban City team will play the demoted Cape Town Spurs in Cape Town on May 18, 2025.
